Principal's Report

Changes to Class Structures and Staff

Due to our increasing student population we have now formed our 20th class. As the increasing enrollments have particularly occurred in Stage 1 and Stage 2, it is an across Stage class.

The students in S1/S2P have settled well into their new class which is being taught by Mr Ernie Principe one of our long term temporary teachers. The class is currently working in our Library. Construction for the new demountable has commenced.

Mrs Josephine Gospher has been permanently appointed to the school. She will commence her position here at the start of 2020. Consequently Mrs Dunstan will remain as the teacher of S2D for the rest of this year.

As of Week 8 this term I will be working at the Department of Education State Office on a curriculum based project as a principal in residence until the end of Term 3. During this time, to minimise any further disruption to classes, Mrs Clarke will be the relieving Principal and Mrs Hall will be relieving Deputy Principal. I am certain that Mrs Clarke and the Executive team will continue to do a wonderful job in ensuring the continued smooth running of the school.

Primary School Leaders Civic Reception

On Wednesday 22 May I had the pleasure of attending the the Primary School Leaders Civic Reception hosted by His Worship the Mayor Council Ross Fowler OAM and the Council of the City of Penrith at Penrith Panthers.

This reception recognised the top tier of school leaders in government and non-government schools across Penrith Council. Congratulations to our school captains Yash Dongre and Amber Saxby who represented our wonderful school and received a certificate from the Mayor. Your parents and I are very proud of you both.

Winter Illnesses

As winter has now well and truly arrived we ask your support in keeping your children home if they are unwell as it stops the spread of illness to other students and staff.

Staff at times can also be unwell and unable to attend work.  Unfortunately this has meant that we have had to split classes as casual teachers have not been available to work. We do this as a last resort and ask for your understanding in this matter.

Working Bee Saturday 15 June

Working Bee – SATURDAY 15 June … WE NEED YOU!

As part of our commitment to building connections with our community, this year staff and students have begun to create a yarning circle – a collaborative and creative way of communicating. The use of a yarning circle (or dialogue circle) is an important process within Aboriginal culture and Torres Strait Islander culture. It has been used by Indigenous peoples from around the world for centuries to learn from a collective group, build respectful relationships, and to preserve and pass on cultural knowledge.

By using yarning circles as a teaching and learning strategy, students’ understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge and ways of working is enhanced. Through the yarning circle we will help students build respectful relationships.

So how can you help ?

On Saturday 15 June we are holding a working bee to build the garden space from 8:00 a.m. We have 4 tonne of bush rock and 10 cubic metre of woodbark being delivered that we will need to move into place to create our yarning circle while students are offsite. We will need a number of parents to assist in moving and racking the woodbark and positioning the rocks. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to be part of what will forever be a significant space within our school. So … if you are able to assist please email Lorraine Husarek at kingswood-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au . We look forward to seeing the wows from the students and families on Monday morning as they enter school.

We ask that students do not attend this working bee as safety equipment will be used on the day.  Morning tea will be provided on the day.

Library

Library Borrowing

Library borrowing has commenced for all students.

To help protect the borrowed books all students must use a library bag. Bags may be the cloth drawstring type, a PVC library bag available from stores or simply a clean, plastic shopping bag.

Students in Early Stage 1, Stage 1 and Stage 2 may borrow 2 books at any one time for a period of two weeks. Students in Stage 3 may borrow 4 books, 2 Fiction and 2 Non-fiction, at any one time for a period of two weeks.

Borrowing time will be made available during class lessons in the Library. In addition, students may borrow at lunchtime on Monday to Thursday. The library will also be open for borrowing and returning books from 8:35am to 8:55am every Monday and Tuesday and 3:05pm to 3:15pm on Monday and Thursday afternoons.

Scholastic Book Club

Scholastic Book Club operates 8 times a year and offers a convenient way for you and your child to select and purchase worthwhile and appealing books, software, craft and games. Brochure items have been expertly chosen to span a wide range of interests, age groups and reading levels.

Our school library benefits from all purchases made through the Book Club.

To order from Book Club simply fill in the order form on the back page of the brochure. Place the order form and correct money in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s name and class. Orders are to be placed in the money slot at the front office, on or before the due date.

Book Clubs LOOP is the Scholastic Book Clubs Linked Online Ordering & Payment platform for parents. Please refer to the Book Clubs Loop flyer for more information.

Please note that your child’s order will return to school approximately four to five weeks after the issue of the month’s Book Club brochures.

Orders for Issue 4 closed at 9:00 am on Wednesday 19 June 2019.

Unfortunately, late Book Club orders cannot be accepted for processing.

Please return all overdue library books and home readers you may have found over the holidays to the library as soon as possible. Thank you to all students who have returned their books promptly however we still have many books that have not yet been returned from last year.

Congratulations to the following students who have completed the Premier’s Reading Challenge for 2019: Awaab S1F, Amna ES1P, Charlotte ES1P, Reya ES1P, Shrestha S1C, Fizzah S1H, Zackary S1S, Faizah S1S, Joanna S2D, Snigdha S2D, Devansh S2O, Safia S2O, Balav S3J, Timothy S3J, Manasvi S3T and Karthik S3T,

Stage Two Excursion to Old Government House

On the 28th and 29th of May (Tuesday and Wednesday) Stage 2 went on an excursion to the Old Government House (in Parramatta) for an excursion.

Once we got to Old Government House the tour guides introduced themselves to us and got us to put our bags away.

After that, Ms Ochert led us around Parramatta Park on a tour. These are some of the main things that we got to see: Lady Fitzroy’s memorial (that her husband had built for her), and The Tudor Gate (‘The Gate’ is an entrance into modern Parramatta). We also saw the transit stones from the very first observatory in Australia, Governor Brisbane’s bathhouse and the Boer War Memorial. After our very long but very interesting tour around Parramatta Park we went back to our bags to have recess.

Next, we got to experience how it felt like to go to school in 1815. The tour guides welcomed us to an olden day classroom where we got to have the first lesson that every child would have back then (but without getting wacked). We even had to bow and curtsy out of the classroom, just like the children in 1815.

Later we got split into 3 groups and got to go on a tour of Old Government House. We learnt lots of new and interesting information. We wished we could’ve stayed longer but we needed to have lunch and go home.

We hopped on the bus, feeling happy and tired, but still eager to go home.

We thank Ms Ochert and the rest of the staff for organising this excursion!

The P & C are supporting 3 children from Kingswood Public School with $150 each to assist with their sports achievements to Zones. Congratulations to Addison, Khloe and Mia.

The P & C are also supporting the school with a donation of $1400.00 towards a new whiteboard. These funds are the from the successful Easter Raffle. Thank you to all who supported.

PLUSH (Pre Loved Uniform Shop)

You have probably seen our new sign on the verandah letting everyone know that PLUSH is open.

Winter is coming, if you need extra long pants or jumpers please call in and see the PLUSH ladies on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings 8.45 to 9.15am. All items are a $2 donation.

Commonwealth Banking

On Thursday 30th May I enjoyed passing out brochures alongside our banking ladies, Vidy, Anne and Sonali.  Gail Anderson from the Commonwealth Bank is a School Banking Specialist, who also lead the way for parents to receive information about school banking.

If your child already has a school banking account and brings it to school each Thursday to be processed, could you please ensure the deposit slip is filled out correctly with the Amount $...............   Date ………………and most important the Student Number…………………

The ladies that perform the banking process are volunteers and are happy to spend time doing this task for your children each week to save for their goals. There are times that the bank slips are not filled out, which makes it a little harder for the ladies to complete. We are most grateful for the help these ladies give.

Big White Donation Bin

Reminder to use the Big White Bin for donations to the needy.

Earn and Learn

Remember the school is collecting Earn and Learn stickers, let collect mases so the school can earn equipment for the school.
