Dear Parents and Carers,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our school community for their support and celebration of all of our students' achievements! We have had many things to celebrate and recognise throughout the year and the list is endless.
Christmas Gifts
Teachers love their job and value the successes of all students. While they don't expect gifts, if you are intending to give a gift to staff, department policy states that gifts need to be at the value of $50 or under.
Poor air quality and inside break times
The school is continuing to work with the Department of Education Work Health (WHS), safety unit and the school’s WHS committee to address the extreme weather conditions. With the ongoing poor air quality, students have had to have a number of days of inside play to assist all students and staff with the poor air quality and smoke especially in the later parts of the day when the smog seems to be greater. The poor air quality will also affect how the school’s Presentation Day and Christmas concert will be run or postponed.
Student Reports
In week 10 of Term 4 2019, students will be receiving their Semester Two report card. The teachers have worked very hard to teach, assess and make a judgement based on the syllabus outcomes and guidelines set out by the Department of Education. Please email the school if you would like to have a meeting with your child’s teacher about their report. When you receive your child’s report, it is important to recognise their individual achievements and celebrate their learning and progress.
Please take the time to read the teacher comments and work collaboratively with the school on any recommendations from the report. Education is a three-way partnership that involves students, school and families all working together. For example, getting your child or children participating in regular home reading can assist children to develop their love of reading whether it is participating in the school’s home reading program or simply reading as a family from a library book. This can be very powerful in providing the opportunity to discuss themes or even vocabulary.
Developing an ongoing habit and assisting your child to complete their sight words, Out of School Learning (OOSL) or assignments can provide the skills for them to become knowledgeable people as they work towards becoming independent and inquisitive learners. In addition, they develop time management, research and communication skills as well as understanding the values of being persistent and resilient, all significant skills that are required to become successful and productive citizens. Library
The school has a number of library books that have not been returned back to the school. Some students have been issued reminders about returning their borrowed books. Please assist in this, as the school has limited books for the library.
Helmets
It is encouraging to see students riding their bikes, scooters and skateboards to school. Please ensure that your child wears a helmet when using their bikes, scooters or skateboards when going to or leaving school!
