The application website is now open for Year 5 parents to apply online

https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7

The online application closes on the 12 November 2018. Late applications will not be accepted.

Last Friday the school celebrated World Teachers Day. The students really enjoyed seeing their teachers being recognised at the assembly. Thank you to the P&C Executive and members for providing morning tea and a small gift. The staff really appreciated their efforts.

Thank you to those parents and caregivers that have seen our new newsletter. We have had over 400 views which is great. Please ensure you have the latest version of the Skoolbag app and allow the notifications as this is where you will find the latest information on our school.

Please be aware some mobile devices need to be held sideways in landscape view to be able to scroll up and down and view the whole screen.

On Sunday 28 October I was privileged to be a part of the audience at Celebration Sing Out which was held at Town Hall in Sydney. This concert raises funds to support the Music Therapy program at Westmead Children’s Hospital.  17 of our Stage 2 and Stage 3 students performed as part of the mass choir. The music was absolutely beautiful. Our students and teachers did an amazing job. Thank you to Mrs Husarek, Ms Ochert and Mrs Johnston and members of their families for all the work they did in preparing our students for this unforgettable event. Please see the pictures below.

At this stage of the year we are preparing for 2019. A note has been sent home in regards to if your child will be attending Kingswood Public School next year or not. Please complete the reply slip and return it to your class teacher as soon as possible if you have not already done so. Thank you to those parents and caregivers who have completed this.

We have had recent incidents where students have come to school with their lunches in glass containers. Please DO NOT send in any glass containers or bottles to school with your child/children as these can be dangerous if they are dropped or broken. Please ensure all containers are plastic.

Please note the last day for Student Banking this year will be Tuesday 4 December.

Celebration Sing Out

On Saturday 27 October 17 students caught the train to Granville PS for a statewide rehearsal of our Sydney Town Hall performance. It was a great opportunity to meet students from other schools and come together to sing the many songs we had been busily rehearsing since March.

On Sunday 28 October Kingswood PS Town Hall choir were ready to dazzle! The students along with Town Hall choir staff left Penrith Station for a full day rehearsal followed by our perfomance in the magnificent Sydney Town Hall. This regal building was an incredible backdrop to the angelic voices of our students. The students, led by Ms Ochert, Mrs Johnston, Mrs Husarek and Ellen Greening, vocal tutor, performed in a combined primary school and adult choir.

They were accompanied by a full orchestral band, an impressive organ and an enthusiastic audience which many students had never seen before. The songlist ranged from contemporary songs to songs performed in Latin - O Fortuna! The students were enthusiastic and incredibly excited at every aspect of the day - from the quiet carriage on the journey to Central Station, lunch in MYERS foodcourt and the hustle and bustle of backstage in such a performance. It was a wonderful experience for these students.

A special thank you to the parents who trusted their children to us travelling on trains and walking to venues, supported their children in performance clothing and eagerly attended the performance. We are grateful for the support you gave us. We also thank Ms Petrocco for attending the evening performance on Sunday night and know that she was impressed with such an amazing musical experience. We look forward to undertaking this opportunity next year again.

K-2 Sports Fun Day

Last week ES1 and S1 participated in our annual K-2 Sports Fun Day. Thank you to our parents and community for coming along to support the day on what was a very warm day.

Our students had a fantastic day of sport, fun and competition. We began the day with short races followed by long races. The Kindergarten children were so eager to be at their first ever school carnival, beaming as they cantered around the course. Year Ones and Twos were excellent role models of how to compete in the different events. We have Olympians in the making! It was wonderful to see students helping each other in the spirit of fair sportsmanship. Our parents even rose to the challenge in the annual parent race. There were so many determined runners!

To all our students, congratulations on your participation, your willingness to have a go and importantly to do your very best. This was very obvious throughout the day to all spectators.

On the day we held a cake stall and the coffee van was on site for all to enjoy a biscuit and beverage to support the Country Women’s Association. We are very grateful to those parents who donated sweets and biscuits for the stall and a huge thank you to the parents who assisted with serving on the day. With the gold coin donations on the day, we will be able to make a donation to CWA Dubbo of $110 – great effort by all, thankyou!

A special thanks to Miss Jansen and Miss Cleaver for their detailed organisation and planning in preparation of the event, setting up the activities and making adjustments on the day to ensure all students had an opportunity to participate. Days like this are successful due to the support of the entire staff.

Photos will soon be posted on our website.
