Beaudesert State School Newsletter

Principal’s Report

Mrs Chant

We are almost mid-way through Term 3. Time sure has flown!

Thank you for your feedback regarding the frequency of the school newsletter. Based on this feedback we will be publishing two editions of the newsletter each term and use our Skoolbag app for regular, up to date messaging for families.

As regularly communicated, illness continues to impact our staff and students as we continue to have confirmed cases of COVID and other viral infections throughout our school.  In the event your class teacher is absent, every effort is made to source a replacement, however, there may be times when the class is split amongst other year levels. Thank you for advising our office staff when your child is sick and keeping them home until they no longer have symptoms as per the Department of Education guidelines. Our data shows quite a number of students as late arrivals. Please note our school day commences at 8:40am and we expect to have students ready to learn on time each day.

A few weeks ago, our teachers conducted their last scheduled parent teacher interviews for the year, however, we always invite parents to speak with their class teacher around student wellbeing and academic progress. Please make contact with your class teacher either via email or by calling the front office on 5540 1111 to schedule an appointment.

It is always difficult for our staff to have an in-depth conversation with you at the beginning of the school day. In order to give you our full attention, please make an appointment to speak with your teacher.

Enrolments are now open for 2023 in all year levels. Our Prep staff and myself have begun Kindy centre visits to get to know our new preppies for the beginning of the school year and we anticipate Prep enrolment interviews to commence before the end of this term. Please continue to keep an eye out for school communication regarding this. Prep transition days are at the final stages and will be communicated soon.

Weather permitting, this Thursday we celebrate our annual prep – Year 2 lap-a-thon organised by our HPE teacher, Mr Brimelow and acting Deputy Principal, Ben Costello. The following Thursday we will be hosting our annual Prep – Year 2 Athletics Carnival. Parents and community members are most welcome to join in the fun on these days.

We will be holding our evacuation drill this week. Please do not be alarmed if you hear the sirens in the school.

Thank you for your continued support with our school. We value your partnership with us.

Book Week Parade

Book Week parade will be held on Thursday 25th August. The them this year is “Dream with Eyes Wide Open”. Students are encouraged to dress up and parents are welcome to come to the parade. We will have a march past on the oval with students heading to the hall for judging and prizes.

Athletics

Congratulations to the students who represented Beaudesert State School at the Zone Athletics Carnival. They did us proud and an extra congratulations to Paige and Eamon who were age champions for the carnival.

Attendance

As you can see by the tables below school attendance has started off very poorly for some classes.    There has been a lot of illness of late but absences have been an on-going problem for the majority of this year with a lot of them being unexplained. Parents need to contact the office or class teacher if their child is going to be absent. When students are not attending school they are not learning.  This will be reflected in their report cards.  Children are required, by law, to attend school. If your child is not attending school on a regular basis this will have a huge impact on their future.

Junior School Classroom Reports

Prep

Welcome back to Term 3!

We are learning about rhyme and practicing writing. We are remembering our Jolly Phonics sounds and Tricky words to help us write little sentences.

In Maths we are now working with numbers all the way to 20 and learning the days of the week.

We have enjoyed learning about living things and are excited to use the VR headsets at the Ocean Stars Incursion.

Year 1

This term in English we will be learning to create a new character for a familiar story (Pig the Star) and discussing these choices in an interview. Over the weeks we will be looking at a variety of Pig the Pug books. Students will also be learning how to conduct an interview and discuss their choices of how they designed their character.

In Maths we have begun our learning with skip counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.  Later in the term, we will be looking at Time and Money.

We also have begun the term with our HASS learning, where we are learning to identify, describe and sequence personal and family events. We will also be describing continuities and changes in aspects of daily life over time. In our Science unit we will be learning to observe, record and describe our understanding of the changing day and night skies.

Year 2

Year Two has some very exciting weeks coming up. We’ll be heading off to the Ipswich Railway Museum to look at and learn about transport technology of the past. We are looking forward to our excursion. We will also be having a visit from Wild Rangers who are coming along to show us a variety of Australian animals. We will get to look at and touch these animals before we write an information report on them. We have been practising writing compound sentences and using technical language when writing a fact. We’ve also been learning to draw realistic pictures to make a diagram. Our classroom learning walls are getting full of all our good work – check it out!

Lost Property

As always we have a mountain of lost property piling up at school. A lot of it is unnamed which makes it extremely hard to get it returned to the rightful owner. If your student has lost any items direct them to the lost property bins which are located near the undercover area at the end of the year 6 classroom block or you're welcome to pop in for a look yourselves. Please check there if your children are missing any of their belongings.

PLEASE MAKE SURE ALL BELONGINGS ARE CLEARLY LABELLED!

KindyLinQ

KindyLinQ is a FREE pre-kindy program for three year old children to attend with a parent/caregive. Beaudesert State School will be running the program 2 days a week. KindyLinQ aims to support children's learning and development and engagement in the year before the start kindergarten, enhance the confidence of parents/caregivers as their children's first teachers, and forge strong and supportive links between home, school, early childhood services and the community.

You can collect a registration form from the office. Please see the attached documents below for more information.

Chappy Corner

Last week was so much fun as we held our second Chappy Colour Run. We hope you enjoy some of these fun photos. A massive thank you to all those who joined in, especially on the fundraising side of things. We receive funding from the government for just under 2 days, so your support enables me to be here for the 3 days a week and provides more opportunities to support our school community.

Here are some of the things I get up to each week:

·         Having conversations with children, staff and parents, seeking to supporting them socially, emotionally and spiritually

·         All Stars Friendship Group

·         Bella Girls Group

·         HOPE Cooking Group

·         Brekky Club

·         Lego Club & Uno

·         HOPE Shop

·         Kindness Project

·         Parent Chat, Coffee & Cake (moving to Tuesday’s)

·         Care for teacher wellbeing

The prize portal is now open, so jump back on to your child’s profile page and you will be able to select their prizes. Prizes must be ordered by next Friday (19th August).

You may have noticed that next to Parent Chat, Coffee & Cake I have mentioned moving it to Tuesday’s. It has been a little tricky to make it up to the Chappy Room in time each week with brekky club, so we are moving it to Tuesday mornings, 8.40am to 9.30am. Please feel free to come up and enjoy a coffee and cake/biscuits etc, along with the chance to just chat with other parents and share in the journey of parenthood.

I am here to support the whole school community, so please feel free to contact me if I can be of any help.

Have a wonderful week 😊 Chappy Jade

Beaudesert Zone Athletics Carnival - Age Champions

Congrats to Lily

Congratulations to Lily in Year 5 who was published in the Australian Performance Horse magazine and Australian Stockhorse magazine with her horse ‘Spinderella Man’ outlining her outstanding work in horse riding.

‘I think Spin is special because he is like my best friend. We love each other and do lots of things together and when we are a team we feel like we are unstoppable. But best of all, he loves creaming soda, just like me!’

STEM Team News

Our STEM Program finished off term 2 by flying our paper airplane designs from our launch pads.  The launch pads focused on the Engineering part of STEM with construction from cardboard, skewers, straws, paddle pop sticks, rubber bands etc. Science was covered in working out the best paper plane to give the furthest flight. We saw lots of successful and some not so successful flights as we tried to improve the distances covered. This term we have focused on teamwork by working in groups to design a parachute for a Lego mini figure that descended the slowest when dropped from a landing. There was also some engineering of catapults to send a block the furthest. Last Friday we headed off to the STEM Convention at UQ - St Lucia with Beaudesert High for the day. We proudly wore our new STEM shirts which we have been patiently waiting for. Everyone had a great day and thoroughly enjoyed the workshops that we got to participate in. Look out in the next newsletter to hear more about our day.
