A big congratulations to Room 5 who performed a fantastic assembly item related to their Science investigations around living and non-living things. There were some inventive costumes, and the students did a wonderful job singing and acting. The crowd really enjoyed this item and were impressed with the students’ recital; well done!
What a busy couple of weeks it has been with our Year 6 Camp to Broome, School Photos, Colour Fun Run and Speedway visit. Please see more details of these below. Next week we move into our Faction Athletics and Book Week activities, an exciting part of our term! Our Faction Athletics has been redesigned this year to fit on our oval and to run with possible impacts of Covid. A few things to note are that; students have been pre allocated into divisions for races based on sprints during sport lessons (alleviating the need for timers on the day); longer races, such as 200m and 400m, will be completed with laps on the 100m track and team games are scheduled after each running session. We hope this makes for a smooth day and one that all spectators will enjoy. We look forward to seeing you there.
We have farewelled Miss Nina DeAngelo, an amazing Education assistant, as she moves on with her family. We wish her well and thank her for her valuable contribution to our school; especially our Pre-primary classes. We are currently still recruiting for this and other vacancies. If you know of someone in town who may be looking for Education Assistant work with school hours and school holiday leave, please encourage them to come and speak with us at the office.
Earlier in the year, parents had the opportunity to complete the National School Opinion Survey and provide their responses. Staff and the school board have reviewed these and celebrated the successes and investigated areas for improvement. Some areas recognised as strengths were; teachers at this school expect my child to do their best, I can talk to my child’s teacher about my concerns, this school looks for ways to improve and teachers at this school motivate my child to learn. A common theme for investigation was the management of behaviour and we are please to be undertaking the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) journey to build on our school’s existing strengths, positive behaviour programs and strategies, develop a consultative and collaborative community-owned process, build a consistent approach to positive behaviour expectations and develop procedures for responding to behaviour errors, with a focus on re-teaching.
Our staff have developed the below purpose statement do drive this-
The Newman Primary School Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) team aims to collaboratively facilitate a positive approach to expected behaviours across the school in consultation with students, teachers, and the community. Our safe, positive and supportive learning environment will be enhanced by an easily understood and accepted framework that fosters improved behaviours, and explicitly teaches social skills and resilience, enabling us to achieve higher educational outcomes.
