Alysha Barraclough

How long have you been at Holbrook Public School?
I started at Holbrook Public School after the first round of COVID lockdowns in the middle of 2020. In 2021 I was lucky enough to have my own Year 4/5 class full-time. In 2022, I decided it was time to follow my dreams and move to London to experience living and teaching there. I worked at Holbrook Public School for Term 1 before I left. I am excited and grateful to be back at such an amazing school before I embark on my next adventure.

Role at Holbrook Public School:
I will be teaching RFF during Terms 1 and 2.

Favourite food:
My favourite food is lasagne because even when travelling around the world, lasagne has never let me down! I also love Ferrero Rocher chocolates or any chocolate.

Favourite colour:
Pastel pink like a Jigglypuff Pokémon.

Favourite sports team/s:
My AFL team is West Coast Eagles, despite never being in Perth. My older brother told me I had to pick an AFL team when I was five, and my response was, “Well, I love eagles”.

What you like to do away from school:
I love to travel and explore! But I also enjoy painting, digital art, paddle boarding and swimming in the Murray River.

Chrissy Lavis

Role at Holbrook Public School:
Year 5/6 Magpies Teacher, Assistant Principal

Favourite food:
Lamb cutlets, gravy and vegetables

Favourite colour:
Blue

Favourite sports team/s:
None

What you like to do away from school:
Spending time with family and friends, crocheting, sewing and travelling

Skoolbag

Parents are encouraged to download the Skoolbag mobile phone app to keep up-to-date with the following school communications:

  • school newsletter,
  • register student absences,
  • complete online permission forms.

To download Skoolbag, search your device’s app store and install this free app. There is no parent cost to use Skoolbag.

Skoolbag works best when your phone notifications for this app are turned ON.

Holbrook Public School uses the SENTRAL Parent Portal, an exciting online service for parents.

Using the Parent Portal, you can:

  • Record your child's absences
  • View your child's attendance history
  • Access our school newsletter
  • View your child's report
  • Book parent/teacher interviews (we'll let you know when we've set the date)

Download the SENTRAL Parent portal from your app store.

Please have a look at our Facebook page. You can also share our page with your family, friends and neighbours.

School gates - closed between 9:20 a.m. and 3:20 p.m.

The school gates will be closed each day between 9:20 a.m. and 3:20 p.m. for the safety and well-being of all students.

The gates will be closed but not locked. We have installed security pool gate locks on all pedestrian gates so families and visitors can access these gates. Parents and visitors must attend the front office when they attend the school rather than go directly to classrooms or playground areas.

The car park gate will remain closed during the day. Parents are asked to park outside the school grounds when dropping off and picking up students. The car park gate can be accessed for deliveries to school, and access to the disabled car park at the front office.

If you enter the school grounds via any gate, we ask that you close the gate behind you for the safety of our students. If you are having trouble accessing the gates, please get in touch with the front office at 6036 2021 on your arrival.

I appreciate your support in this matter.

Change to assembly time - Now Tuesday fortnightly from 2:45 p.m.

Many parents completed the Tell Them from Me surveys in 2022 to give valuable feedback to the school on daily practice, reporting to parents, and what they valued at our school. From these surveys, we have made many changes, and one is to make the whole school assembly and events more accessible to all families at Holbrook Public School. From the feedback, parents and families asked for events to be scheduled at the beginning or end of the school day when parents attended the school for drop-offs and pickups. During Term 1, we will be running whole school assemblies on Tuesday afternoons starting at 2:45 p.m. each fortnight beginning on Tuesday, 14 February, in the hall.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Don't forget to tell us if your child has a medical condition

If your child has a medical condition, you must:

  • Notify the school,
  • Complete the appropriate paperwork and hand it to the office,
  • Provide any in-date medications to the office.

If you took your child's medication home at the end of last year, please remember to bring it back (check the expiry date because we can't accept out-of-date medication).

Attendance and absences

We want to do all we can to be sure your child achieves their potential and enjoys being in school. One way we can help make this happen is to be sure your child attends school each day unless they are sick or are absent for a justified reason.

Protecting the well-being of our students through the reporting and monitoring of student absences is the responsibility of both parents/carers and schools. Notifying the school before or on the day your child is away helps us keep accurate student attendance records to support you and your child.

We know that school is the best place to learn, and regular attendance means students can stay on top of their schoolwork and get the most out of their learning. If you are having trouble getting your child to school every day or on time, please talk to our school staff so we can work together because every day counts.

Missing a day here or there may not seem like much, but absences add up and can impact your child’s learning more than you think. When your child misses one day a week over a year, that’s 40 days of school, eight weeks of lessons, and 2.5 years over their school life lost.

Our school strives for the expected attendance rate, which is above 95% of students at school each day over the year.

Please register your child's absence using the Skoolbag app, our SENTRAL Parent portal, or by emailing/phoning the school office.

Years 1-6 school excursion

On Tuesday, 28 February, Years 1 to 6 will be going on an excursion to visit the Flying Fruit Fly Circus, MAMA, and Oddie's Creek Park. The excursion has been made possible by the P&C and a grant from Charles Sturt University - Community University Partnership (CUP) Grants and will be at no cost to our students. This is an excellent opportunity for our students to engage in Albury's performing and creative arts programs. Permission notes regarding this excursion will be coming out later in the week. Due to our kindergarten students only beginning school, we have decided that they will stay at school on this day but will have an opportunity to go on a special excursion later in the year.

Professional learning and collaboration

This year, all staff at Holbrook Public School will be involved in the Albury/Hume Network Professional Learning Community. The aim of our staff being involved in this Professional Learning community is to provide an organised, professional learning community of interested schools and teachers to help meet the learning needs of our teachers and students.

The community's vision statement is to work collaboratively across the networks to achieve high-quality teaching and learning that impacts student outcomes in literacy, numeracy and well-being through research and evidence-based practices.

Our executive team believe the benefits of our staff being involved in the learning community and forums will be consistent teaching and learning protocols, building stronger schools to meet systemic challenges, sharing knowledge and expertise and building stronger communities.

Each term, our staff will attend two 3-hour learning forums at Murray High School in Albury from 3:45 – 6:45 p.m. During these forums, they will build professional networks with other schools and teachers and engage in high-impact professional learning to meet the needs of our staff and students and work towards achieving the targets in our school plan.

Please click on the link to apply, if your child needs to catch a bus to school in 2023.
