Spring Farm Public School

Newsletter Term 3 Week 2

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to Week 2 Term 3, I hope you had a restful and lovely school holiday break. Students have received their first semester written report. This is a great opportunity to celebrate your child’s learning. Please take the time to read the teacher comments and work collaboratively with the school on any recommendations that could assist your child’s progress.

On 13 and 14th August 2019, the school will be holding Student Learning Goal Conference which will provide students, parents and carers the opportunity to review learning goals and discuss the written report. Information will be sent out about booking times in a few weeks. Please keep referring to the Skoolbag app and the school website for up and coming events or reminders. Like all schools, they are very busy places.

Communicating with the School, Class teachers and Other Staff

If you need to communicate to the class teacher or another staff member, these are the options:

  • Anything urgent, please ring the school and that message will directly be passed onto the class teacher
  • Email the school and the office staff will send it to the correct class teacher. Class teachers are busy teaching their class and will look at their emails at least once a day. They will contact you via phone when they can and if they are unable to reach you, they will leave a message.
  • If you require an acknowledgement of the email being read, please use the receipt option when emailing the school
  • Please see the class teacher in the afternoon at dismissal time
  • Contact the office via the phone and they will contact the class teacher for them to call back or contact you via the school email to arrange a meeting

The school utilises Class Dojo, SeaSaw app and school facebook as digital learning journals. Due to WHS and privacy laws, the Comments and Messenger components on these apps will not be activated.  This will also ensure that your messages and any concerns can be addressed in a timely fashion by contacting the office so your messages can be passed onto the right staff.

Please do not ask questions via the school’s facebook page as it is a learning journal only. Below is an example of the response that you will receive. Any concerns or clarifications please contact the school office.

Reminders and Expectations about Morning Routines

  • Keep walkways clear

Due to safety concerns, parents and carers are asked to keep the walkways clear so that teachers can organise their classes from 8:55am.

Once the morning bell rings I ask that parents and carers stand clear of the walk ways; say their goodbyes and leave as soon as possible, as this can minimise separation issues with students.

  • Toilet Access

Primary toilets will be opened for all students between 8:30am to 8:55am. Adult toilets are in the school hall.

  • School Assemblies

Whole school assembly will be every Monday and Thursday morning. Information and reminders about the week ahead and recognition of any achievements especially for our Positive Behaviour for Learning bands will be given during these assemblies. Parents, relatives and friends are welcome to stay and join us in our assembly and celebrate the students and school’s achievements.

Please be mindful, when anyone is addressing the assembly that we all display good role modelling by being respectful and courteous in these formal occasions. This includes limiting side talk with each other and being pro- active with our toddlers.

Please refer to Spring Farm Public School’s Code of Conduct (in the Information Handbook on page 4) on the school website : http://www.springfarm-p.schools.nsw.edu.au/our-school/information-handbook1

School Fundraising

Pyjama Day - 05/07/19

Pyjama day was held on the last day of Term 2. The school raised $437.50 which will be put towards purchasing sports equipment.

Cake Stall - 05/07/19

Our cake stall was a great success; raising $320 which will go towards Year 6  2019 fundraising.

Ice Blocks

Year 6 continue to sell Zooper Doopers during lunch breaks; these are $1. All money raised goes toward Year 6 2019 fundraising.

Spring Farm Public School is a Nut Aware School

As a school, we aim to minimise the risk to children with documented allergies to nut products. We have some students who are highly anaphylactic and require their EpiPen injection if they have contact with these type of foods that contain nuts or eggs. Please consider what snacks you send with your child or children as we are all responsible for the wellbeing of our students.

How can you help?

Avoid, or use ‘nut free’ alternatives to the following products:

  • Nuts or Nut bar
  • Peanut butter
  • Nut spreads such as Nutella
  • Fruit and nut bars and muesli bars
  • Biscuits
  • Chocolates and any other products that have nuts listed in the ingredients

The school acknowledges that it is impractical to ask parents not to send food which states ‘may contain traces of nuts’ on the label. This nut aware policy applies to those ingredients specifically listed on the product label.

You can view the Department of Education policy on anaphylaxis procedures for schools: https://education.nsw.gov.au/wellbeing-and-learning/health-and-physical-care/health-care-procedures/conditions/anaphylaxis
