It has been lovely to see the smiling faces of our wonderful students back after a well deserved break. It has been a pleasure to speak with some of the students at lunchtime over the past week about their holidays and the quality time they had with their families.
We have another exciting term ahead filled with opportunities for our students in Term 3. Next week we celebrate Education Week. This week acknowledges the amazing efforts and achievements of Public School students and staff. The theme for 2019 Education Week is Every student, every voice. It is a celebration of student empowerment and how the NSW public education system gives students the skills they need in order to have and express a voice during their own educational journey and as engaged global citizens. Our Education Week team have been busy preparing events to showcase the talent we have at Kingswood Public School and would love to see you at our Open Day on Wednesday 7 August - you will not want to miss this opportunity to share the day with your children.
A dedicated group of students and teachers have been busy all year rehearsing for the Penrith Valley Performing Arts Festival Massed Choir and the Blue Mountains and Nepean Dance Festival. During this term both groups will perform their items at separate performances. I would like to congratulate the students on their commitment to rehearsals and enthusiasm to represent our school at these events. I look forward to seeing their final performances.
On Staff Development Day our teachers, support staff and administration staff were busy participating in professional learning opportunities to ensure that our practices at Kingswood Public School are current and meeting the needs of our students. We spent a large part of the day learning about the new Personal Development, Health and Physical Education Syllabus that will commence being taught in 2020. Last night our whole staff updated our CPR and Anaphylaxis qualifications. I would like to thank the staff for giving up their time to be at school until 6pm last night.
Thank you to all of our families for supporting the school throughout the Woolworths Earn and Learn period. Our final sticker count was 14 640! Such an amazing effort, the stickers were used to purchase a Jelly Bean Table and Stools for a classroom, This equates to about $500 of product that we will receive. We have been purchasing the Jelly Bean Tables for classrooms to allow group work and small group teacher guided activities to take place. We would like to thank the community for their support to allow an additional classroom to have such a great resource. We will continue to purchase more of these tables so that each classroom will eventually have one.

Unfortunately, late Book Club orders cannot be accepted for processing.
If books are borrowed from our school library you will find the PRC ID number written inside the front cover of the book. You will also find them under ‘Booklist’ on the PRC website. Please see me if you need any assistance.

Scholastic Book Fair Term 3 2019
Wednesday 7th August
8:30am – 3:30pm
School Library
Our Book Fair is an exciting way to involve children in the wonderful world of books and to continue to promote their interest in reading.
A large assortment of fiction and non-fiction books, activity packs and stationery items will be offered at our Book Fair. All children will have the opportunity to preview the items available and record their favourite titles and cost to discuss with parents at home before the Book Fair opens.
There are two ways the children can purchase books.
1. Parents can accompany them to the Library at an appropriate time during the Book Fair’s opening hours and help them with their selection.
OR
2. Send your child to school on Wednesday 7th August with the money they need to make a purchase. Children wishing to make a purchase will visit the Library with their class group at an arranged time.
The children will be able to take their purchased books home with them. If, due to great demand, a particular title has sold out we can order it for you. It will be necessary to pay for the book/s at the Book Fair and then you will receive the book a week or two later.
Parents may also like to donate a book to the Library. A selection of titles will be arranged on a Donation’s table. Please fill in the donated book slip and bring it with the book to the cashier’s desk. A Presentation Certificate will be placed inside the donated book and your child will be the first to borrow it.
Payment for all items may be made by cash or credit card.
Our school will benefit from sales, allowing us to provide more resources for your children. Please come along and support our school. Why not bring a friend or relative along as well. We look forward to seeing you at our Book Fair for 2019.

Sound Scouts is pleased to announce that, with the support of the Australian Government, Sound Scouts is now FREE for school aged children living in Australia.
An estimated 1 in 10 school children suffer from hearing loss which left undetected can lead to speech, learning and behavioural problems.
Children use their hearing to learn about the world around them and develop communication skills. This in turn affects their relationships with family and friends, their education, and future employment. The impact of hearing loss on a developing child can be significant, so the sooner issues are detected, and treatment or management is provided, the better chance a child has of living a normal life.
Hearing issues can develop at any age, so it’s important to be aware of the key signs displayed by a child if they have a hearing problem.
Signs of hearing loss:
•Does your child speak louder than others?
•Does your child turn the TV up too loud?
•Does your child often say ‘what’ or ‘huh’?
•Does your child have trouble pronouncing words?
•Does your child struggle at school?
•Does your child have trouble hearing in noisy places?
•Does your child lose focus in noisy places?
If you selected YES for one or more of these questions, it is recommended that you test your child’s hearing. Hearing issues may result from a number of conditions including conductive loss, sensorineural loss or auditory processing disorders. Early detection of hearing issues, followed by the appropriate treatment gives a child the best opportunity to achieve their full potential.
