Principal's Report

In the past two weeks we have had many outstanding achievements by our amazing students. I would like to congratulate the following students on their achievements:

Kaarunya (S3T) was awarded a Commended Ministers Award for Community Schools for her work in the language of Tamil. Kaarunya and her family are pictured below with her award. Mrs Taylor proudly watched on from the audience as Kaarunya received her award.

Our debating team has had two winning debates in the past few weeks. Both debates were tricky topics and our team provided some great arguments on both occasions. The debating team will now move on to the next level of competition.

Mr Hughes took our school Spelling Bee finalists off to the regional Spelling Bee last Monday. I would like to congratulate our Stage Two representatives Iyaad (S2H) and Jenny (S2O) who made it through to the second round of the competition. Partick (S3F) placed second and Manasvi (S3T) placed first in the Stage Three competition. Manasvi will now move on to the next phase of the competition.

Our dance groups performed last week at the Blue Mountain Nepean Dance Festival. Miss Phillips and Mrs Azzopardi have done an amazing job preparing our dancers for their performances. The feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive about the quality of dance and the story that both dance groups told. I would like to thank Miss Phillips and Mrs Azzopardi for their ongoing work to provide such wonderful experiences for our students. I would also like to thank Mrs Husarek for helping out on the night and for attending in my place whilst I was sick.

This week our SRC lead by Mrs Proud and Ms Settree have coordinated Table Tennis sessions for the students at lunch time. After the success of our handball competition earlier in the year the SRC decided to hold a lunch time event each term. Our Table Tennis tables are new to our sports equipment this year and the students (and some teachers!!) really enjoyed the opportunity to work on our skills.

I have been in contact with Ms Petrocco who is enjoying the work she is doing on the Curriculum Project. She is working with schools across the state and is gaining great insights to the wonderful work that other schools are doing. Her work in this area has been extended until the end of this year. Ms Petrocco will return to Kingswood PS at the beginning of next year.

I will continue in the Relieving Principal role until Ms Petrocco’s return. Mrs Hall will continue as Relieving Deputy Principal and Miss Cleaver will remain as the Assistant Principal for Early Stage One. Mrs Taylor is currently on leave and Miss Lutton will be the Relieving Assistant Principal for Stage 2 in her absence.

If your child forgot to hand in their order envelope for school photos please return it with the correct money to the money slot at the front office by Friday 20 September. You can also order and pay online at The School Photographer.

We are also holding a Family Portrait Fundraiser so if you or someone you know is interested in getting family portraits done please click onto the link below for full details.

In Week 10, we will be hosting our first ever Multicultural Concert. Miss Lutton and Mr Hughes have been very busy working with our wider community to put this event together. They have sourced a number of high quality performances and we welcome you to attend this free event. Please see the attached flyer for all of the details.

Stage 2 & 3 Premier’s Spelling Bee

On Monday 9 September, Iyaad (S2H), Jenny (S2O), Patrick (S3F) and Manasiv (S3T) represented our school in the Premier’s Regional Spelling Bee Competition at Werrington County Public School. I am so proud of our students as they did a fantastic job and spelt some incredible words. Both Patrick and Manasiv competed against 44 other students and made it to the very last round. Manasiv then spelt her word correctly and won the competition with Patrick as runner up. Manasiv will now go to compete at a state level on Friday 8 November at the ABC Centre, Sydney. Congratulations to everyone that participated in the Premier’s Spelling Bee for 2019 and we wish Manasiv best of luck at the state finals in November.

2019 Stage 1 Spelling Bee

Get ready for the Kingswood Public School Stage 1 Spelling Bee.

The Premier’s Spelling Bee was introduced in 2004 as a fun and educational way for primary school students to engage with spelling. The program includes activities to encourage all students to engage with spelling and to promote improved literacy in combination with the English K-6 Syllabus.

The Stage 1 Spelling Bee will be held this term on Thursday, September 12 in the school hall. Two children from each class will be selected to be their representatives in the battle to find the best spellers in Stage 1.

We had a large pile of books returned from Penrith Library this week that had accidentally been left behind by some of our students. Staff from Penrith Library used to send an email when this happened but they have now informed us that they won't be sending any more reminder emails.

Please take care of books belonging to our Library and remember to take them with you when you leave Penrith Library. Please also double check before returning books at Penrith Library that only their books are being put into the return shute.
